Why Apply?

Start your career in international arbitration and join the ultimate law student experience.

The Vis Moot is a course offered to master students of the MLaw, MLE and MIL programs. Spanning over 2 regular semesters, the students receive a total of 15 ECTS for their participation in the written (9 ECTS in autumn semester for contextual studies, concentrations) and oral part (6 ECTS in spring semester for electives).
Once admitted to the team, participation is mandatory in both written and oral part. Written part entails writing of two submissions of approx. 35 pages based on a Moot problem. Thereafter, in the oral part, hearings in front of an arbitral tribunal will be held in Vienna, Austria, where the students plead both sides based on their initial submissions.
The months leading up to finals in Vienna will be filled with preparatory test pleadings at major Swiss law firms and international Pre-Moots, as well as internal preparatory sessions. The students are coached under the academic supervision of PD Dr. Marco Stacher, and a team of lawyers, post-docs, doctoral candidates and post-grads.
The Vis Moot gives you the unique opportunity to gain practical insights into international sales law (CISG) and international commercial arbitration while also providing the ideal setting to acquire crucial skills needed as a lawyer, namely, written and oral advocacy. Experiences which most of the students can never make during their studies! It is also a great opportunity to improve your command of English and meet students as well as practitioners from all around the world.
