About the Vis Moot

General Information

The Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot is the largest and most renowned international moot competition for future lawyers in the field of private law. The problems that are devised each year deal with a wide variety of issues regarding international sales transactions subjected to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and procedural issues of arbitration.

The starting point for the case is comprehensive evidentiary documentation (contracts, agreements and correspondence between the parties), from which the participants have to determine the facts of the case and find legal remedies.

Since its first edition in 1994, the Vis Moot has evolved considerably, both in terms of the number of participants and the scope and complexity of the cases. In the past few years, students from more than 390 universities across 80 different nations have participated.
